"in it together!"

Session 2

Band and Tech,

What the Heck?!

Wed. June 3

3 - 5PM (1.5 hr session and 30mins Q&A)

Open to all

If there's one thing we've learned these last few months, it's that online band rehearsal just isn't a thing. There are a myriad of platforms and apps from which to choose but limitations in place regarding what we're permitted to use. Further, equity and access in all our diverse contexts are real concerns. What then, are the best options available to us for delivering a robust program of musical experiences for our students? And what do we need as educators to ensure we are prepared and well-versed in a palette of technologies that support our goals and objectives? The OBA welcomes Andrew Mercer, online music teaching and technology expert, to lead us through the maze of options and to help us make the best informed decisions for our programs.

Wed. June 17 | 3 - 4:30PM

Open to all

Part 1: Breaking News with

Shashi Ramu

Shashi will provide a short update from the industry regarding resources and relevant products which are in development, initiatives and solutions regarding usability and copyright, and the world of digital print music/instructional materials and how all of this will be accessible to Ontario (and other Canadian) instrumental music educators.

Part 2: Keeping our Collective Heads in the Game during Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer

It's almost here - summer. Yes! We all deserve a much needed break from the screens and to reenergize as September will be upon us before we know it. With business not as usual, and with so much uncertainty and change thick in the air, how do we sustain our momentum ensuring we will be ready with a toolbox of new teaching strategies come fall? And how do we encourage our students to keep music-making throughout the holidays so they are still engaged at the start of the school year? Join our network of colleagues to co-create a digital bank of ideas and resources from which we can draw to set us up for the greatest success.

Session 3

Bring It On: Creativity, Flexibility, Adaptability in Online Band Education

Wed. June 10 | 3 - 4:30PM

Open to all

Crisis can be a catalyst for innovation. We already know our rehearsals won't look the same this fall. Whether hybrid models or fully online, what can we offer our band students that meets course learning outcomes and still provides deep, meaningful, musical experiences? This session consists of facilitated breakout spaces for band educators, to share, explore and discuss alternative ideas and approaches for continued excellence in instrumental education.

Session 1

We're Listening

Wed. May 27 3:00 - 4:15PM

Open to all

This general session is a chance to lay it all out and be heard - concerns, frustrations, fears and anxieties. It's also an opportunity to brainstorm with band colleagues about what we need as professionals to be successful and resilient no matter the path we're facing.
