Beginning Band Basics Chapter Eight:
Repertoire Resources

REPERTOIRE for BEGINNING BANDS

It is extremely important that teachers select appropriate music for their beginning bands.

Pieces must be “playable” for students at this basic level. It is recommended that bands start with music at the 0.5 grade or “beginning” level which can be found in a variety of places online.

Students will “like” and respond positively to just about any type of style of music once they are able to have success playing the music.

Band composers and music publishers offer music at this level, as well as music which is progressively more difficult as you go to the 1.0 grade level.
