Teaching Practices

Create and post an agenda for each class - which includes the plan for the class with specifics  and “flow” of instruction

This includes:

  • Warm Up activities/exercises

  • Long Tone practice (very important at beginning stages)

  • Rhythmic practice (develops articulation)

  • Review of previous class(es) and learned concepts with whole group performance  (usually from method book)

  • Introduction of new concepts/material/pieces

  • Review of known repertoire and material

 

Plan for adding new musical ideas and concepts with method book instruction and pieces of repertoire.

Plan for different types of instruction:

  • Whole group

  • Sectional/small group

  • Individual

 

Instruction for at home practice and practice routines
