David lum
A graduate of the University of Toronto, David Lum recently retired from the Toronto District School Board, after teaching for 30+ years in the public school system. He previously taught band at Bliss Carman Sr. P. S. for 8 years, before moving to Agincourt Collegiate Institute, where he served as the Curriculum Leader of Music for 20 years. David currently teaches the tuba/euphonium studio at York University. He served on the Board of Directors for the OMEA from 2000-2015, is also an Honorary Lifetime Member and Past President of the Ontario Band Association. David is a Conn-Selmer Educational Clinician.
Gillian MacKay is a Professor at the University of Toronto, where she conducts the Wind Ensemble and teaches conducting. She serves as Associate Conductor of the Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra. Dr. MacKay has adjudicated and guest conducted in Canada, the USA, Asia and in the UK.
Known for her research on the relationship between conducting and mime, Gillian’s research involves the application of the Michael Chekhov acting technique to expressivity in conducting gesture. She leads the University of Toronto Wind Conducting Symposium each July.
Gillian studied at the University of Lethbridge, University of Calgary, McGill University, and Northwestern University.
