EQUIPMENT RULE OF THUMB: IF YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED IT, BRING IT WITH YOU!
STAGES A and B- CONCERT BAND/ORCHESTRA STAGES
For performances at both venues (concert and jazz stages), the Golden Horseshoe Music Festival will provide the following equipment:
-
Concert Band/Orchestra: Snare drum, bass drum, xylophone, bells, vibraphone, chimes, marimba, timpani (4), concert toms, electric keyboard (with amp), tam-tam, bass amp, congas, drum set and music stands. No mallets or patch cords will be provided. If you require an additional bass amp, please bring it with you and remember to bring patch, power and extension cords.
-
All groups must provide mallets, beaters and miscellaneous percussion for all performances and post-performance clinics. No equipment may be substituted; all groups must use the equipment supplied by the festival except for the following exceptions:
-
Percussionists and drummers may ADD BUT NOT SUBSTITUTE drums, cymbals, or other hardware / instruments to the setup. Substituting equipment takes time and the Festival staff work hard to keep a strict schedule.
-
All equipment belonging to schools and individuals (including cases) should be clearly marked with school/organization name to allow for easy identification. The Golden Horseshoe Music Festival takes no responsibility for damaged, lost or stolen equipment
-
If you have more than 2 electric instruments in your concert band, plan to bring an extra amp(s). In January 2027, we will have a full and up to date version of our “Equipment Provided” lists.
WHERE ARE THERE LARGE PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS FOR CONCERT BANDS?
As it stands now, we are expecting to have full large percussion on both large stages (A and B) and in their clinic rooms but *not* the warm up rooms. Warm up rooms may have portable bell or snare kits, plus anything extra we have access to. We’d like to thank our generous sponsors – Yamaha Canada Music, Conn Selmer Educational, Long and McQuade, Dream Cymbals, and MusicFest Canada – The Nationals for their support via equipment sponsorships.
STAGE C - JAZZ BAND STAGE AND SOUND/PUBLIC ADDRESS
-
Jazz Band/Jazz Combo/Rock/Pop/Praise/World: Drum set (bass drum, 3 toms, snare, hi-hat, ride cymbal, crash cymbal, and appropriate pedals), 4 microphones and stands, electric keyboard, bass amplifier, guitar amplifier, congas, vibraphone and music stands. The Festival will NOT provide mallets, timbales, or any other auxiliary percussion.
-
Our Jazz/Rock Band Stage is not a large room. It is not a theatre or a formal performance venue. We are completely converting a large classroom into the GHMF AFTER DARK BLACK BOX/Jazzy Theatre.
-
For the bands with vocalists, extra amplified instruments, and additional needs – there are no plans for a mixing board. All of our microphones will be wireless, direct to amp or monitor.
-
If your needs (particularly the rock groups) call for more than this, please start to carve out a plan to get onstage, set up, sound check, perform, and off stage all within your 30 minute block.
-
Again, the room (C066, on the basement floor) is not huge and sound will carry.

Note: The seats do not move. It is up to you to decide how to configure your ensemble based on these maps. You can use as many or as few rows as you wish. If your band is smaller and you decide not to use front rows in order to be closer to your percussion, the empty chairs/rows will remain between the conductor and the band. We will not have stage crew throwing chairs and stands around in between each performance, we just don’t have the manpower or the time. Thank you for your understanding and for reviewing these maps – we recommend rehearsing according to the seating charts whenever you can!
STAGE A – TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY Capacity is 90 chairs in 5 rows. **important**
As you can see, there are TWO files for Stage A. On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be 90 seats for winds and brass across 5 rows.
But for Thursday, we are adding rows 6 and 7, for a shocking total of 130 seats. We have very large bands on Thursday, it’s quite exciting.
The STAGE A fire curtain GAP
…has to stay there. We are sorry about this, it is beyond our control. This will mostly affect the larger bands.
NUMBER OF MUSIC STANDS AVAILABLE** subject to change
These numbers are **approximate**
Stage A: 80 Clinic A: 70 Warm up A: 65
Stage B: 50 Clinic B: 40 Warm up B: 35. (slightly more on Friday)
Stage C: 25 Clinic C: 20 Warm up C: 20
