Your recording should demonstrate tone quality, technical facility, and musicality. Please include:
Musicians may choose between:
- A)
- Two instrument-specific etudes provided on the OPHB website (see below)
- Scales also provided on the website (see below)
OR
- B)
- 2 solo works of contrasting styles - photocopy of the music must be provided
- Scales provided on the OPHB website (see below)
- Percussionists should demonstrate abilities on snare drum, timpani and mallet instruments

To ensure the best results for your audition, we recommend that you ask your band director and/or private instructor for assistance in selecting and preparing your material. When making your recording, please follow these guidelines:
- DO NOT begin the tape with your name, instrument, grade etc. Simply begin playing.
- DO NOT put your name on the CD - the audition recordings will be numbered upon arrival
- Make sure your tape is cued to the beginning of the audition.
- Thoroughly listen to the tape before you send it in to ensure there are no mistakes and that the quality of sound is good.
- Include your $250 or $275, + $10 separate non-refundable application fee (check the Recommendation Form for details. Cheques should be made payable to Ontario Band Association.) Fees from non-successful applicants will be returned minus the audition fee.
- Do not forget to include completed recommendation forms with your tape/CD.
- Remember that there are no live auditions. Therefore, you only get one chance to impress the audition committee. Be sure to take your time and be well prepared for your recording.
Recordings must be postmarked by May 14, 2010. Each applicant will be contacted following the auditions. If your address and telephone number are different during the summer months, please include this information as well.
