About The Tour
Dear Colleague:
The Ontario Band Association is inviting all interested high school students to audition for the annual Ontario Provincial Honour Band. Fifty of the province's most talented high school musicians will be selected to take part in an intensive four days of music making. The annual ensemble gives participants the opportunity to work with world-renowned conductors throughout the event. The four days include our rehearsal camp, school performances, and a keynote performance at the Ontario Music Educators' Association annual conference. According to Dr. Jack Stamp, conductor of the OPHB 2011, "Not only is [it] an outstanding performance opportunity, but it is also a wonderful sharing of experiences and goals that create a strong community of musicians."
The organizing committee is building on the success of previous years and has developed an excellent four day event (October 31st to November 3rd, 2012) that promises to give the participants the opportunity of a lifetime. Based at the Salvation Army's Jackson's Point Conference Centre (Check out the facility at http://www.sajpcc.com), Alain Cazes, notable Canadian conductor and educator, will lead the 2012 Honour Band. (You can check out his bio on our website.)
Please feel free to copy the recommendation form and audition requirements for your students and encourage them to send a recording. You will notice that participation fees are slightly reduced for recommendations made by current Ontario Band Association members. If you are not a current member, please go to our website for membership information. All auditions are to be postmarked by May 11, 2012.
We look forward to hearing your students' auditions. If you have further questions or would be interested in joining the Ontario Provincial Honour Band committee, please contact us at your earliest convenience.
Thanks for your continuing support of the Ontario Provincial Honour Band and all other OBA activities and events.
Sincerely,
Scott Harrison
Director, Ontario Provincial Honour Band
