Code of Conduct
The University of Toronto and the Ontario Band Association are thrilled to present the 3rd annual Chamber Music Festival in April 2012.
To help make the festival an enjoyable experience for everyone, we ask that you remind participants of the following expectations:
- Please respect all staff and student helpers who are a part of the University of Toronto Scarborough and the Ontario Band Association. This festival is staffed primarily by volunteers - please be kind.
- Please respect all University of Toronto facilities as we are very pleased to be able to use it for our festival. There may be other groups using part of the building. We ask all participants to please remain in designated areas of the building.
- Please respect your adjudicators. These individuals will be working long hours to provide you with the best possible feedback. Show enthusiasm and musical excellence - remember you are still being "marked" during your clinic.
- Please respect your fellow musicians and chamber ensembles. Please show courtesy when meeting other students, participants and/or teachers - encourage others to play well.
- No conducting permitted. Conductors may not sing with their ensemble nor play with their ensemble.
- It is optional to have a conductor for ensembles up to grade 9, however, ensembles of grade 10 and up may not have conductors.
- No rehearsing permitted on stage.
- Coaching from the audience during performance is not permitted.
- THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PLAYING OF ANY INSTRUMENTS OUTSIDE OF THE WARM-UP ROOM, PERFORMANCE HALL OR CLINIC ROOMS.
- Please be a respectful audience. We ask that there be ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING DURING A PERFORMANCE. Please remind your students not to applaud between movements in works which have several movements.
- There shall be no consumption of foods, chewing gum and drinks (except for bottled water) in the performance hall, clinic rooms and warm-up rooms.
- There shall be no use/consumption of alcohol or any other illegal substances by any chamber music participant on the Festival site.
- A blank STUDENT ADJUDICATION FORM is provided on our website. We encourage band directors to make at least two or three copies for each student. We hope that student musicians will be active listeners at this year's festival. This form is very similar to the one which your festival adjudicators will receive.
- Any groups which cannot abide by this code of conduct may be disqualified from the festival.
